Integrated Power Generation

We are generator experts!

In addition to industrial refrigeration control systems, we offer on-site power generration services.

A typical system could include:

  • Portable or permanent multiple generators
  • Manual or automatic transfer switch
  • Pad mounted transformers
  • Power monitoring system
  • Electrical fire pumps
  • Or a combination of all of these

Engineering & Specifications

A typical building generator system would either be considered primary or secondary power. Primary power, or medium voltage, is a 15,000 volt system, where secondary power is a low voltage system of 480 volts. Generally the cutoff is about 600 volts, if you're needing more than 600 volts then the medium voltage generator would be needed and anything lower, is secondary voltage. We determine the necessary voltage required, by evaluating your buildings utility bill. We also use power monitoring systems to determine your buildings energy demand. Various information about your system gives us a deeper insight to what is required. When your compressors motors first start, this produces a "starting inrush." This inrush uses a lot of energy and needs to be considered.

Further Information

Even further considerations are the time delays needed. When a power failure occurs, it is strongly advised not to put everything back online at once. This adds unecessary stress on your generator and strongly shortens its lifespan. For this, we add timing delays to various parts of your system and put them back online in a staggared fashion.

We will also incorporate different types of transfer schemes: Open Transition vs. Closed Transition. An Open Transition is also called "break before make," where the generator breaks the power from one source before connecting. A Closed Transition is called "make before break," where it makes the connection before breaking the failed source. There are benefits and downfalls to each transition. We will help you decided which of the two is right for you!
